First EAGE Conference on Seismic Inversion | 26 – 28 October 2020, Porto, Portugal

da | Gen 24, 2020 | Conferenze

The First EAGE Conference on Seismic Inversion will be an event of interest to geoscientists working in many roles in industry and academia. Seismic inversion is a key process used extensively in exploration, production and geohazard studies. Inversion provides a way to visualize and analyze data at higher resolution than standard seismic, it facilitates better estimations of reservoir properties and acts as a link between rock physics and seismically interpreted structure models, ultimately improving the interpretation efficiency.

The latest advances, innovative technologies that solve difficult and complex problems will be presented as well as case studies and practical applications demonstrating the recent and established inversion methods.

The conference will include 3 days of technical sessions highlighting various applications and methodologies used in the industry. The event will provide networking opportunities with top specialists in the geosciences community. Bringing together geoscientists focused on conventional and unconventional plays, as well as carbonates and clastics provides an opportunity to have an exchange of knowledge between specialists applying inversion with diverse objectives.

The objective of the conference is to discuss and show examples of the current progress, recent breakthroughs and future trends in seismic inversion methodologies and application. Participants will have an opportunity to present their experiences and ideas which lead to a better understanding of the value of seismic inversion along with the limitations and areas for improvement they have discovered.

As a first meeting dedicated to seismic inversion, we are to some extent entering uncharted territory as far as the range of relevant topics is concerned. We expect to address typical challenges in seismic inversion including layer properties prediction (both elastic and rock properties), azimuthal anisotropy, thin layer property prediction, detuning, hydrocarbon saturation, DHI risk modification of prospects, and drainage strategies. The impact of machine learning, neural networks, artificial intelligence and cloud computing will certainly be on the agenda.

This covering intends to set the bar for serious discussion on existing applications including case studies with lessons learned, but also on how we can expect the various options in seismic inversion can be further developed to meet the needs of the industry.
